The old King of Stone settled down upon his throne,
And looked across the world with a mighty granite eye.
He said "I am the king of every squirming, creeping thing,
And no one is as powerful as I."
Now the Lord of the Sky turned and cocked his eagle eye.
He circled down and flew around the mighty King of Stone.
He said "The greatest king will be the one who takes to wing,
And that great king is I and I alone."
The old King of Stone gave a rumble and a groan.
He shook his mighty shoulders and the stones began to fall.
The world started quaking, and the creatures started shaking.
They cried "You are the greatest king of all."
Then the old Eagle King turned and spread his mighty wings.
He flew up through the heavens and he blotted out the sun.
Everything in earth and sky began to cry a mighty cry:
"O Eagle King, you are the greatest one."
...
Beneath the ancient deep, something silent lies asleep,
Where words of stone and sunlight whisper down like raindrops
fall.
The wizened sailors say that it will wake again someday...
Then we'll see who is the greatest king of all.
