A Great Teacher

A man sat down in front of a statue, mistaking it for a Master sitting in za-zen. He waited in silence for a long while, then finally spoke.

"Master," he said quietly, "where do I come from?"

The Master did not answer.

"Where will I go when I die?"

Again, the Master did not answer.

"Master," asked the man desperately, "what is the meaning of life?"

The Master did not answer. Without warning, the man received enlightenment!

"Thank you, Master!" he said, tearfully.

The Master did not answer.
