Writing

For most of my life, I've had vague yearnings to be a writer, although that urge has now taken a back-seat to game-design. In this section I've collected a few odds and ends I've written over the years.

The Gospel According to Jonah

I wrote this story sometime in the early 90's, when I was losing my religion. If you're in the process of losing yours, perhaps this will make you feel better. (Just kidding. It won't.) In addition to the story, I've included a fascinating critique which my friend Geoff Wyss wrote after reading it many years ago.

The Towers of Hanoi

I wrote this science fiction yarn sometime in the early 90's. The details are pretty hard to swallow, but I still have a bit of a soft-spot for the thing. It works better if you think of it as an allegory.

The King of Stone

This poem began life as lyrics to a blues song that my friend Russell Barber and I wrote.

The Angel and the Devil

Here's me making fun of religion again—this time in easy-to-swallow poem form.

Zen Koans

While exploring the local Zen gardens, I discovered a collection of ancient parchments tucked behind a boulder. I've managed to translate a few of them from the original Japanese. What do you make of them?
