Buddha-Nature

The Master Mukin and a young seeker sat in the hut, speaking about the ways of Zen.

"Master," spoke the youngster, "how may I acquire Buddha-nature?"

The Master answered, "It is yours already."

"This I do not understand," said the seeker. In reply, the Master leaned forward and pounded his own head on the ground.

"Master, I do not understand," said the young man, but the Master pounded his head again.

"Still, Master, I do not understand this."

The Master pounded his head once more, and instantly the young man was enlightened!

"Thank you, Master!" he said. "I now understand!"

The Master gave no answer, because he had died from a really nasty head wound.
