The Angel and the Devil
An angel met a devil in the middle of the air.
Said the devil to the
angel, "What's been happenin' up there?
For my rank is rather lowly,
And
the gossip travels slowly,
And I seldom stray so far away from you-know-who
downstairs."
Said the angel to the devil, "Oh, you know, there's nothing new.
We sing
and play our harps all day, with breaks at ten and two.
Now I hope nobody
hears,
But I've been there ten thousand years,
And I'd trade my robes and
angels wings for something fun to do."
The devil snorted "Something fun? Think twice before you try it!
Down
there they party every day and every night's a riot!
You say you're tired of
singing?
Well my pointy ears are ringing!
And I'd trade my tail and
pitchfork for a little peace and quiet!"
The two of them fell silent, as the devil stroked his chin.
Then the angel
gave a chuckle, and the devil gave a grin,
And the angel swapped his
wings
For the devil's devilish things,
And the devil donned the angel's
clothes beside his angel twin.
The angel spoke a solemn vow, and promised not to tell.
They slapped each
other on the back and wished each other well.
And the devil heaved a
sigh
As he floated toward the sky,
And the angel grinned a wicked grin and
sauntered off to hell.
